Interesting facts about Abram/Abraham

Abram was a descendant of Shem (one of Noah’s three sons).  Genesis 10:11-27.  Lot was also one of Shem’s descendants, he was Abram’s nephew.

Shem- Semite – Semitic

Genesis 14:13 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew;

Some people will tell you that Abraham came from the Hebrew tribe, but this isn’t true – the word Hebrew means that he came from or was descended from the “other side”, i.e., the other side of the Euphrates river.  He was the first person ever to be referred to as a Hebrew.

Genesis 10:6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

Genesis 9

22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

One can see how the curse of Canaan is played out between the Canaanites (Palestine) and the Semites (Abraham and his descendants).

The curse has nothing to do with racial prophecy and servants in relation to it.  It has everything to do with the chosen people of Israel (the descendents of Shem via Abraham), and the heathen people of Palestine (the Canaanites).

Genesis 9 is an interesting chapter.

Canaan was also the servant of the descendants of Japheth (one of Noah’s sons) who dwelled in the tents of Shem :

27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
