For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
manifest – clear or obvious.
Brother Dean told me once that a good way of testing one’s doctrines and/or beliefs is by checking out what other Mid-Acts Right Dividers believe – it’s one way of learning. Seeing what they believe and how they reached their conclusion/s.
If you can see where they go wrong, you can avoid falling into the same hole as they have.
He pointed out the subtility of some deception/heresies. It’s mainly the truth with a lie or two added – in the case of right division, it’s the truth with some of Israel’s doctrine added to the mould. Most heresies seem non-threatening, non-invasive because they are so subtle, but when someone dumbs down the gospel – it is a serious matter. A good example of a subtle deception is the dividing of the Gentiles in Paul’s epistles, which basically takes one down the hyper-dispensationalist, Acts 28 path, and if one looks at their doctrine, one wonders if these people are in fact saved because they reject Paul’s pre-prison epistles as being applicable to the body of Christ today. What is contained in Paul’s pre-prison epistles – namely the gospel and the catching away to name but two important doctrines.
It goes without saying that Brother Dean’s advice was more valuable than gold.
