1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
In 1 Timothy 3:16 Paul tells us who the mystery of godliness is – it’s God who was manifest in the flesh, i.e., the Lord Jesus Christ. How do I know? The colon between the word “godliness” and “God” tells me it is.
Christ in the flesh was was justified in the Spirit (capital letter), seen of angels, preached unto the heathen Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into Glory – ascended.
He is the mystery of godliness because it’s through faith in His finished work on Calvary’s cross that men attain unto godliness today. I would say it’s a mystery because men are blinded and cannot see this because they still try to attain to godliness through their own righteous works. (righteousness which isn’t righteousness in the eyes of Almighty God).
In 2 Thessalonians 2:7 The Apostle says –
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
Even during Paul’s day the devil corrupted God’s truth/words (“doth already work”). Today, even though millions blame the ills of the world on the devil, one cannot blame him for everything, some of the time the ills are due to a sin cursed world as well as men’s stupidity, BUT, the devil is the ruler of this world, and he works in ways that are a mystery to most – as an angel of light, which means he stands behind the pulpits of mainline, denominational, institutionalized christianity, and has his ministers of righteousness – the very ones who tell you to repent, change your lifestyle, give up …………. (insert appropriate sins in the blank) in order to be SAVED.
It’s interesting that the Apostle Paul didn’t call them “ministers of unrighteousness” as most so-called Pastors and Preachers would call other churches/preachers/pastors who do not fall in line with the beliefs of their denomination.
Soul damning doctrine and true evil isn’t to be found in pubs, clubs, and other places of ill repute – it’s to be found standing the pulpit of most so-called churches out there, it’s to be found on certain religious programmes that are beamed worldwide, which preach a soul damning gospel because it isn’t applicable for this day and age we live in. It’s to be found in the so-called missionaries that populate remote places of the world, it’s wicked lost men preaching “righteousness and change” to other wicked, lost men and women.
