SINCERITY

If you’re going to do or saying something, at least be sincere about it.  When you study, let it be free of/from purloining.   10Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity;

Purloining vs good fidelity.   Fidelity = faithfulness to sound Pauline doctrine.  It’s remaining faithful to sound Pauline doctrine and behaving the part – not giving anyone the chance to speak evil of you or the word of God due to your questionable behaviour – and that would include :

  • not believing in an empty Jesus theory
  • a flat earth theory
  • a second blessing theory where one’s hypocrisy is blatant to all except yourself
  • without deceit
  • free from pretence

Titus 2

OLD WOMEN – OLD WOMEN WHO THE WORLD SO HAPPENS TO DISRESPECT BECAUSE OF NOTHING OTHER THAN THEIR AGE:

3The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

  • Not false accusers
  • Not given to much wine
  • Teachers of good things
  • Teach young women to be sober
  • To love their husbands
  • To love their children
  • To be discreet
  • Chaste
  • Keepers at home
  • Good
  • Obedient to their own husbands – OWN.  Paul could have said “obedient to their husbands, but he said “to their own husbands”.
  • That the word of God be not blasphemed – in other words – believing or propagating heresies.

YOUNG MEN : HOW MANY CAN SAY THIS ABOUT THEMSELVES TODAY AS YOUNG MEN?

6Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

  • Sober minded
  • A pattern of good works in all things
  • A pattern of good works in doctrine
  • Showing uncorruptness
  • Showing gravity
  • Showing sincerity
  • Sound speech that cannot be condemned
  • Behaving in such a manner that no-one has anything evil to say of you.

AGED MEN : BECAUSE THEY’RE PARTICULARLY THE ONE’S WHO BECOME THE MINISTERS/PREACHERS OF GOD’S WORD OF TRUTH RIGHTLY DIVIDED

1But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: 2That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

  • Be sober
  • Grave
  • Temperate
  • Sound in faith
  • Sound in charity
  • Sound in patience

Whereas most put the emphasis on behaviour in this chapter, it’s mainly about sound doctrine in tandem with good behaviour.  One can behave but not necessarily adhere to sound doctrine and vice versa.

1But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

5…….that the word of God be not blasphemed.

7…….in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8Sound speech,

10.…..  that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Denying:

  • ungodliness
  • worldly lusts
