1 Corinthians 1:17 – For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
- He wasn’t sent to baptize (with water) as most churches do today.
- He was sent to preach the gospel, yet most today are ignorant as to what the gospel is which saves men’s souls.
Followers of the Apostle Paul? No.
1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:2 – But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
- He renounced the hidden things of dishonesty.
- Didn’t walk in craftiness
- Didn’t handle the word of God deceitfully.
Proof that he was an Apostle sent of God:
2 Corinthians 12:12 – Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
1 Corinthians 2:1-3 – And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. Not with excellency of speech or of wisdom.
Yet modern-day preachers come with excellency of speech and worldly, man-made wisdom and want to know everything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:13 – Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
2 Corinthians 7:2 – Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
Wronged no man, corrupted no man and defrauded no man – just told them the truth and nothing but the truth. A claim institutionalized, denominational christianity cannot make as they defraud, corrupt and wrong men every day.
2 Corinthians 10:10 – For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
Compare this to most Pastors/Preachers of today whose bodily presence is awe-inspiring and bold, dressed to the nines in expensive suits, being clean shaven, “dressed for success” and whose speech is anything but contemptible – they stroke peoples’ “tail feathers” instead, by telling sinners they are worthy and that salvation comes with a change in lifestyle.
2 Corinthians 12: 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Today’s preachers claim to seek the Lord on such things and claim healing of same, yet the Apostle Paul sought God 3 times on this matter and the answer was a resounding NO (and with good reason).
2 Corinthians 10:1 10 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Unlike Dale Carnegie or modern-day preachers who claim rudeness of speech to be unloving, Paul told the Corinthians what they needed to hear in no uncertain terms.
1 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2 Corinthians 7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
A lesson we can all learn: to be exceeding joyful in all our tribulation because:
Romans 5: 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
