Why John 3:16 isn’t the gospel which saves souls today

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

*No mention of Him dying for our sins,

*No mention of his burial.

*Nor resurrection for our justification

It says God gave his only begotten son, meaning he gave him to Israel to offer the promised  kingdom, and she had to believe in Him in order to have eternal life, ….. but she did not, nor did she believe he was the son of God….. nor that he was the Messiah/King……..

Paul’s grace (my) gospel states that we are to believe HOW THAT Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures…..

*we can go back in hindsight to the OT (Matt, Mark, Luke & John) and note how that Christ died for our sins – he was made sin for us – he was beaten and made to suffer in our place, he took the punishment we deserved….

he was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day according to several witnesses……. according to the scriptures……

BUT no one knew at that time that Christ’s death, burial and resurrection would be the way Gentiles would be saved in future, through faith alone and would become fellowheirs in the kingdom of God with Jews who believed the same gospel……. since Israel at that time had an elevated status and was above the heathen Gentile nations who had no hope and  were strangers from the covenants God made with Israel……. it was a mystery….

All prophecy in the OT was fulfilled concerning Christ’s death, burial and resurrection….. “It is finished…”

And yet certain people will tell you MML&J is pre-crucifixion……. which is a lie….

Which brings me to Paul’s “my gospel”…….

Whenever Paul mentions his gospel, it is in singular terms, but you get those who claim he preached 14 gospels and counting…. because of their kenotic theology, they cannot discern that God and Jesus are  separate, yet one, and  due to the unbelief of the Jews,  who had to be convinced by Paul that Christ is the Son of God – referencing the OT – convincing someone of something isn’t preaching a gospel, it’s laying the groundwork whereupon they can build their faith…..

showing them prophecy in their Torah concerning Christ.

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

If our sins were automatically forgiven in this dispensation, there would be no need to believe the Gospel of Christ.

The words “received” “wherein ye stand”, and ” by which also ye are saved” are separated by semi-colons, which means they are an itemised list of requirements for salvation.

When exactly is a person saved? When their sins have been forgiven.  Why?

Isaiah 59

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Ezra 9:15

15 O Lord God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

Trans-dispensational truths.

It’s sin that separates us from God……. the very same sin which separates us eternally from God…….. if we do not believe the gospel…… hell awaits us.

Why would people whose sins are automatically forgiven at birth land up in hell? That would be a miscarriage of justice, besides, where in the Bible does it state that one becomes unforgiven if one does not believe the gospel?

We receive forgiveness of sins the moment we have faith in His cross work and His resurrection.

Forgiveness is available yes, it was accomplished by Christ on Calvary’s cross, as well as His resurrection, but we need to receive it, and it is done by way of faith in the gospel of Christ.

Acknowledgment that forgiveness comes by way of faith…… because 2 Corinthians 5:19 uses the word “reconciling” which denotes the present tense, which means God is currently/presently reconciling the world unto Himself by way of the word of reconciliation, that is, the gospel of Christ which was created, became a realisation when God was in Christ almost 2000 years ago on Calvary’s cross, that is, when He died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the 3rd day. Today we believe it for the forgiveness of our sins….

The very reason we preach Christ crucified – 1 Corinthians 1:23

God’s (free) gift awaits you, the very gift He created when He was in Christ on Calvary’s cross all those years ago …… will you RECEIVE it in lieu of payment for your sins, or will you reject it?

If sin wasn’t a problem today, why did Paul see himself as such?

1 Timothy 1:15

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Some say it’s a Son issue, and not a SIN issue, be cause if one focuses on sin, one tends to forget the Son.

But in reality, the Son is the remedy for the sin.  He takes it away, He is the solution to our depraved nature and hopelessness……

2 Corinthians 4:1-4 – Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

We received mercy, we weren’t given mercy automatically when we were born…..

I just cannot reconcile in my mind how atheists, Muslims, Christ haters, and other evil men have had their sins forgiven and are reconciled to God – reconciliation meaning, they are God’s friends……

there is something very wrong with that picture……

Somehow ignorance? reigns supreme because some cannot tell the difference between works and sin.

Sin is trespassing against a holy God. So how would you sin then? By doing or saying bad or evil things – works, yes?

Why are you judged according to your works as a lost person? Because there are varying degrees of punishment in hell…. Luke 10:14 and Revelation 20:12.

What does Paul say about sin?

1 Corinthians 15:17

For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

…. your faith is vain; ye are YET in your sins….

Lost folk:

Those who do not believe the gospel are still (yet) in their sins……

who receive redemption upon believing the gospel of Christ

Colossians 1:14

In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:

Saved folk:

Romans 6

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 7:17

Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Some of my favourite verses #3

Daniel 7:9-10

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
