Romans 8:18 ~ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Apart from that –
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
The end result of tribulation/suffering is developing patience.
The end result of patience is experience. If we see the bad times through we will have gained patience and from that experience.
Experience – wisdom – wise. Experience is what makes old people wise – well, it should, but sometimes I wonder about some old people who aren’t wise, but it’s purely due to the fact that they’re still charismatic Baptists holding to a “be thankful only in good times” theory, apart from that, they’re Romans 10:9ers – and on that wicket – I question their salvation.
Bad times – suffering – tribulation builds spines. What doesn’t make you fat, makes you stronger.
The end result of experience is hope. And in that hope is the end result of the meeting of the Lord Jesus Christ in the air.
Having hope doesn’t make us ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Hoy Ghost which is given to us.
Romans 8:25 – But if we hope for that we see not, [then] do we with patience wait for [it].
Titus 2:23 ~ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
That is our hope, that is what we wish for, it’s the very thing that doesn’t make us ashamed, it is what we should be wishing for, looking forward to : the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Joy in tribulations to garner patience, experience and hope – do not give up the good fight, do not stop running the race because things are bad – maintain the hope, look forward to meeting the Lord Jesus Christ in the air.
The Apostle Paul is talking about the suffering of the body of Christ on this earth and how most of us should be thankful in all things because it is purely a temporary situation, what we’re going through, experiencing on this earth is nothing in comparison to the glory that awaits us in heaven.
The Apostle Paul also says this –
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
IN EVERY THING (two words) give thanks. He doesn’t say be thankful for the good things you have. He says IN EVERYTHING give thanks which means good times, bad times, crazy times, perilous times, evil times, the times when everything seems to be standing still – IN EVERYTHING.
Ephesians 5:20 – Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Again, FOR ALL THINGS – not only the good things.
But most of all –
Colossians 3:15-17 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
be thankful you have the peace of God – to be saved – very important, because it’s what He did for you.
Colossians 3:17 – And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Which means you cannot do anything in word or deed – all in the name of the Lord Jesus if it’s something evil or bad Contrary to what some might think – some will raise glass after glass of wine/alcohol and get inebriated and do it in the name of the Lord Jesus – then give thanks to God…… that’s not good times or bad times, it’s self-inflicted ignorance/stupidity.
And for those who demand instantaneous respect :
Respect is earned. If you want my respect, stop preaching Pentecostalism rightly divided because it makes you nothing other than a knucklehead. Pentecostal Grace Believers are under the impression that they should only be grateful/thankful for the good things/sutyatuibs in their lives.
Do you have family? Be thankful.
You don’t have family? Be thankful.
You have a car? Be thankful.
You have to walk? Be thankful.
You have a job? Be thankful.
You don’t have a job? Be thankful
You have a husband/wife. Be thankful.
You don’t have a husband/wife. Be thankful. (And I am 🙂 )
You don’t have food to eat? Be thankful.
You do have food to eat? Be thankful.
In ALL things, for ALL things.
Because whatever you’re going through – it’s God’s will for your life – and it’s meant in the context that He is building you, making you stronger. Not a weakling, pansy used to having or getting your own way or having materialistic possessions no-one else has, or being on a better footing (financially or in respect of family/friends) than someone else during your tenure on this planet which makes you smug and/or blessed.
Members of the body of Christ are all already blessed : with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places – and for that I am thankful, not smug.
